There are two pipes which transport wastewater in the Bulimba-Hamilton siphon, and they will be replaced one at a time as part of an essential once-in-a-generation renewal.
While one of the pipes is being replaced, the second pipe in the tunnel will continue to transport normal daily wastewater flows through the network.
The siphon, which stretches 600 metres under the river from Bulimba to Hamilton, consists of a tunnel containing the large wastewater pipes. It transports the wastewater of more than 150,000 customers from the southside of Brisbane under the river to the Eagle Farm Sewage Pump Station where it’s then pumped to the Luggage Point Resource Recovery Centre for treatment.
During these critical works, we need to manage excess wet weather flows through a screened relief point to minimise impacts to customers and the environment.
