What's happening?

As part of this commitment, we are upgrading the infrastructure surrounding Laidley Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Plainland sewage storage facility. 

The works will include upgrades to the existing Gehrke Road storage site, as well as a new sewerage pipeline from Plainland to the Laidley STP, and a new recycled water pipeline. 

This upgrade will reduce the current requirement for daily tankering around Plainland, resulting in fewer heavy vehicle movements.

The project will improve service capacities, ensure reliability and the sustainability of wastewater services for the Laidley community. 

The project is expected to commence mid-2022. Constructed in stages, the works will take approximately 14 months to complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

Work hours

Standard work hours are Monday to Friday, from 6:30am to 6:30pm, site and weather conditions permitting. 

At times, work may need to be undertaken out of hours or at night to limit network and community impacts.

Night works will be minimised where possible, All work will be subject to site and weather conditions. 

 

Urban Utilities’ delivery partner, John Holland, is committed to keeping the local community informed and will provide advance notification of any out-of-hours works to affected residents and stakeholders.

We will provide more detailed information for residents and businesses in proximity to work areas closer to the construction start date. We’ll keep you updated as the works progress.

What can I expect?

  • Crews, trucks and equipment near footpaths and roads. Safety barriers will be in place to keep everyone safe. Various trucks carrying special-purpose equipment will be used throughout construction.
  • Changed traffic conditions and lane closures around work sites, with traffic management in place to manage traffic flow.
  • Crews moving back and forth between work locations on a regular basis
  • Safety lighting to assist with night works, when required.
  • Vegetation removal including removal of selected trees under Council permit, may be required in some locations to access construction areas.
  • Temporary water outages where new pipelines are installed in close proximity to live mains
  • Restoration - we will restore all work areas as close to the original condition as possible, once the work is complete.

Our commitment

The project team will minimise the construction impacts through various mitigation methods, including managing noise and dust at the source, using traffic control and reviewing work methods as required. 

We will keep directly impacted neighbours informed by providing regular construction updates during the project.

  • In local and state-controlled road reserves parklands, bushlands and creeks.
