What's happening?

Urban Utilities is committed to excellence in water and sewerage services that meet the evolving needs of our customers and enhance our communities.

Our delivery partner, Downer WSP, will soon start essential upgrades across two sites, Outlook Water Reservoir located on Outlook Drive, Mount Gravatt and Azanian Street booster pump station, Upper Mount Gravatt. The project will include mechanical and electrical upgrades at the pump station and reservoir as well as installation of monitoring systems across several locations in and around Mount Gravatt, Upper Mount Gravatt and Macgregor.

Construction is expected to commence from mid-August 2023, and will take four months to complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

Works will occur at several locations in the project area gradually (refer to map over the page). There will be site offices and laydown areas including vehicle and machinery entry and exit off Shire Road, Mount Gravatt Outlook Drive and Azanian Street, Upper Mount Gravatt.

  • Pump station upgrade work involves replacement of electrical assets inside the pump station building, surrounding footpath, and nature strip.
  • We do not anticipate potential for water outages; however, we will mitigate any changes throughout the project by informing and update impacted stakeholders of possible water outages as required, to reduce the amount of water downtime experienced by the community.
  • Construction is expected to commence from mid-August 2023 and will take up to four months to complete, weather and site conditions permitting. We will notify residents and businesses in these areas before any work takes place.
  • Most of the work will be done during the day from Monday to Friday between 6:00am and 6:00pm some Saturday and night work may be required; we will notify all impacted customers.
 What to expect during construction
  • Site investigations and location of existing services
  • construction-related noise and dust from equipment, machinery and vehicle movements
  • some footpath access and on-street parking might be temporarily unavailable
  • changed traffic conditions and possible lane closures around work sites with traffic management in place to manage traffic flow and maintain property access
  • some night work with safety lighting and noise from excavation work and machinery
  • possible water interruptions. Customers will be notified at 3 working days prior to any planned temporary disruption to water supply
  • Queensland Fire and Emergency Services will be notified at least 48 hours before any temporary water shutdowns
  • dialysis patients - Queensland Health will be notified at least 48 hours before any temporary water shutdowns.
Our commitment

The project team will manage the construction impacts by:

  • Minimising noise and dust and managing both at the source, to the extent possible.
  • Using traffic management to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians when required.
  • Temporarily restoring disturbed roads to allow for continued use while work is in progress.
  • Restoring affected roads as close to their original condition as possible, after the work is completed.

Please travel through the area with care and observe all signposting, speed limits and any directions given by traffic controllers.

Project Benefits

We are improving the sustainability of our infrastructure. Upgrades to the reservoir and pump station will future proof the reliability of our network and ensure long-term service delivery to the community for the next 40 years.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete this essential work.
