Work continues on the S1 Main Sewer Upgrade to extend the operational life of the pipe by at least another 50 years and cater for population growth.

The upgrade involves relining a 5.7km section of the 100 year old sewer from James St to the Eagle Farm Pump station.

The project started in March 2015 and will be delivered in several phases over four years until 2019.

Most recently, maintenance hole restoration (cone topping) on five maintenance holes on Kingsford Smith Drive between Nudgee Road and Alison was completed.

Current works:

Stage 1 finishing works

The project team continue to carry out the finishing works on Stage 1 between Amy Street and Riverview Terrace, including the final sewer line inspection, grouting and cleaning.

Night works will continue between the working hours of Sunday to Thursday, 8pm to 5am.

The crew will be working at various locations along the entire length of the line segment, between Amy St and Riverview Terrace, during the finishing works.

There will be changed traffic conditions overnight, operational noise during grouting and final cleaning and inspections, vehicle movements with reverse beepers, safety lighting and some odour impacts during ventilation of the maintenance holes.

Sewer relining between Riverview Terrace and Seymour Road, Hamilton

From Sunday 24 July 2016, multiple crews will work at various locations between Riverview Terrace and Seymour Road to carry out sewer relining.

There will be changed traffic conditions overnight, operational noise during cleaning and relining, vehicle movements with reverse beepers, safety lighting and some odour impacts during ventilation of the maintenance holes.

Property access will be maintained under traffic control.

Queensland Urban Utilities is committed to ensuring the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the region's sewerage infrastructure.

The S1 Main Sewer was built almost a century ago. The main sewer pipe is up to 1.5m in diameter and lies 20m — the equivalent of eight storeys — beneath the ground. The section from James Street, Fortitude Valley, along Kingsford Smith Drive, Hamilton, to the pump station at Violet Street, Eagle Farm, needs essential rehabilitation and will be relined with a steel reinforced polyethylene pipe, using trenchless technology.
