Lowood Sewer Upgrade

Queensland Urban Utilities has begun a $1.8 million upgrade to Lowood’s sewerage network.

The project involves laying 2.4km of new sewer pipe along Prospect St and Glamorganvale Lowood Rd, between Park St and Forest Hill-Fernvale Rd.

Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Michelle Cull, said the pipe was needed for planned residential developments in the area.

“The population is expected to triple by 2035 and it’s important that we cater for that growth,” she said.

“All those extra people mean more toilets flushing and more showers running, so we need to increase the capacity of the local sewerage network.”

Crews will be using the latest trenchless technology to bore a tunnel from Park St to Glamorganvale Lowood Rd which will minimise impacts to the Lowood primary and high schools.

Ms Cull said other parts of the project will involve some open trenching.

“This includes the intersection of Prospect and Peace Sts and a small section of Glamorganvale Lowood Rd where the new pipe will connect to the existing network,” she said.

“We’re asking drivers to be patient and follow the lower speed limit on Prospect St while we carry out these essential works.”

The work will be carried out Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm and is expected to be completed by late July, weather permitting.

There will be some night works towards the end of the project but affected residents will be notified ahead of time. There will be no interruption to sewerage services.
