Queensland Urban Utilities is investing $300,000 to upgrade sewer pipes in Gatton and Laidley.

Works have commenced to inspect, clean and reline more than 1.8km of sewer pipes, extending their life by up to 50 years.

Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Sally Prosser, said crews would be using the latest trenchless technology to carry out the upgrade.

“The crews access the pipe through maintenance holes, so no open trenching is required, minimising impacts on the community and the environment,” she said.

“The relining process will involve pulling a soft PVC liner into the sewer, which is then formed into a solid circular pipe using heat and pressure.

“This project is part of our ongoing capital works program and demonstrates what goes on behind the scenes to ensure Lockyer Valley residents can keep their showers running and toilets flushing.”

Works will be undertaken 7am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday and are expected to be completed by the end of February, weather permitting.

Ms Prosser said residents may notice temporary traffic changes to allow crews to safely access work sites, but there will be no interruption to sewerage services.

“We thank residents for their patience while we carry out these important works.”
