Queensland Urban Utilities is calling on Ipswich’s brightest minds to register for its first Water Startup Challenge.
The hack-style event will be held at Ipswich’s innovation hub Fire Station 101 on the weekend of October 20-22.
Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Michelle Cull, said the aim of #WaterStartup17 was to engage the local community, as well as support entrepreneurs in their start-up journey.
“The challenge we’re putting to teams is about how we can use new technology to create the water and sewerage network of the future,” she said.
“We’re asking questions like: what could we do with data to make our customer’s lives better? And, how can our water networks help make cities more liveable, connected and enabled?
“On the final day of the event, teams will pitch their ideas to a panel of expert judges – and we can’t wait to hear their inventive solutions.”
The weekend will be facilitated by Fire Station 101’s Community Manager, Chad Renando, and will be supported by Advance Queensland’s ARIP program (Advancing Regional Innovation Program.)
Ipswich City Council’s Economic Development and Digital City Committee chairman, Cr Paul Tully, said the council-owned innovation hub was kicking serious goals.
“Council is pleased to support dynamic like-minded entrepreneurs all focused on success,” he said.
“Fire Station 101 brings together mentors, investors, partners and volunteers to inspire and innovate.”
Ms Cull said Queensland Urban Utilities had a culture of innovation, which they’re keen to nurture in the community.
“Whether you’re a creative, programmer, engineer or data scientist – we’d encourage you to sign up for our first Water Startup Challenge,” she said.
“You don’t need to have a team to register; the event is all about meeting new people and generating new ideas.
“You’ll also be helping a good cause, with proceeds from registrations going to WaterAid Australia.”
