Staying hydrated and playing your part in the war on waste will be made easy in the Queensland Urban Utilities Water Zone at the Green Heart Fair.
The Brisbane City Council event will be held on Sunday, September 9 at the Carindale Recreation Reserve from 8am to 2pm.
Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Michelle Cull, encouraged everyone heading to the fair to stop by the Water Zone.
“Don’t forget to bring along your reusable drink bottle, which you can fill up with tap water at our hydration station for free,” she said.
“We’ll also be giving away reusable bottles, in line with the Green Heart Fair’s ban on the sale of single-use plastic bottled water.
“Reusable bottles are a better choice for the environment, as single-use plastic bottles often end up in waterways. Turning to tap also saves you money, with tap water costing less than one cent per litre compared to around $3 per litre for bottled water.”
People can also check out Australia’s first poo-powered car, which always turns a few heads wherever it goes.
The poo car runs on electricity generated from waste at the Oxley Creek Sewage Treatment Plant.
There’ll be something for the whole family with lots of other fun and interactive activities in the Queensland Urban Utilities area including;
- a dedicated Doggy Water Zone, where furry friends can stay hydrated,
- a Flush Simulator Machine, where you can learn why it’s important to only flush the three Ps – pee, poo and paper,
- the Water Warriors stage show (on the main stage),
- and a craft and chill out zone, where kids can make their own badges.
The Green Heart Fair is Brisbane’s biggest free community and sustainable living festival, promoting innovative green living in a fun, family-friendly environment.
