Green Heart Fair

Queensland Urban Utilities is playing a big role in keeping the Green Heart Fair single-use plastic bottle free.

The Brisbane City Council event will be held on Sunday, June 3 at 7th Brigade Park on Murphy Rd in Chermside from 9am to 3pm.

Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Michelle Cull, encouraged everyone heading  to the fair to stop by the Water Zone.

“Don’t forget to bring along your reusable bottle, which you can fill up with tap water at our hydration station for free,” she said.

“We’ll also be giving away Turn to Tap reusable bottles, in line with the Green Heart Fair’s ban on the sale of single-use plastic bottled water.

“Reusable bottles are a better choice for the environment, as single-use plastic bottles often end up in waterways. Turning to tap also saves you money, with tap water costing less than one cent per litre compared to around $3 per litre for bottled water.”

While filling up, people can also check out the Queensland Urban Utilities Poo Car, which rolls into the Green Heart Fair for the second time.

Australia’s first poo-powered car runs on electricity generated from the Oxley Creek Sewage Treatment Plant, and always turns a few heads.

Other activities in the Queensland Urban Utilities Water Zone include:

  • A dedicated Doggy Water Zone, where furry friends can stay hydrated.
  • Flush Simulator Machine, where residents can learn why it’s important to only flush The Three Ps – pee, poo and paper.
  • Don’t Flush That stage show (note this is on the main stage).
  • Craft and chill out zone, where kids can make their own members of the talking toilet rolls family, The Rolls.

The Green Heart Fair is Brisbane’s biggest free community and sustainable living festival, promoting innovative green living in a fun, family-friendly environment.

“There’s plenty on offer for the whole family, including artisan markets, live music, kid’s entertainment and food trucks,” Ms Cull said.

“As a partner of CitySmart, we’re proud to be part of this great event and look forward to seeing you there!”
