Queensland Urban Utilities has finished a $3 million dollar upgrade to the Kilcoy Sewage Treatment Plant.
Originally built in 1967, the plant has undergone a significant revamp to ensure the long-term sustainability and efficiency of the town’s sewerage infrastructure.
Queensland Urban Utilities spokesperson, Michelle Cull, said the plant features modern automation and control systems to more effectively treat sewage now and into the future.
“It’s important we extend the treatment plant’s operational life as well as the reliability of the local network,” she said.
“The facility has a new recycled water pump station, high-tech switchboard and septic tanker receival system.
“The plant can be operated remotely which will allow us to resolve issues from anywhere and at any time of the day or night.”
The upgrade will also allow us to supply up to 300kl of recycled water to customers each week.
Although it is a largely invisible network, safe and reliable water and sewerage services are a basic foundation for future development.
Queensland Urban Utilities is investing $5.8 million dollars in capital works in the Somerset region this financial year.
